EEA announces “ALL FIRED UP ON MAIN!”; Invites artists to submit proposals

East End Arts is pleased to announce a special fire hydrant design contest in Downtown Riverhead: ALL FIRED UP ON MAIN! East End Arts in collaboration with the Town of Riverhead is pleased to invite artists to submit proposals for the design on existing Main Street fire hydrants. There are 10 identified hydrants located on Main Street in Downtown Riverhead, NY between Maple Street and Griffing Avenue. The goal of this program is to embrace the artistic talents of local individuals while displaying creative artwork throughout the community. There is no specific theme for this contest, though designs must be suitable for public viewing.

Artists must complete and submit an application with a sketch of their design and a brief artist bio no later than September 8, 2014 to East End Arts, Attn: 2014 Fire Hydrant Contest, 133 E. Main Street, Riverhead, NY 11901. All submitted applicants will be reviewed by the committee and a select few will be chosen to bring their fire hydrant designs to life! For the artists whose designs are selected, all paint and supplies will be provided and a $100 stipend will be provided for winning designs, at project completion. There is no cost for artists to submit their application. For more information and to download an application, click here.

East End Arts’ Executive Director Patricia Snyder comments: “East End Arts is pleased to be working with the Town of Riverhead to employ art towards downtown beautification.”

Artists will be notified of their acceptance of design by September 15, 2014. All painting must be completed by October 10, 2014. An awards ceremony will be held at the Riverhead Country Fair on October 12, 2014, and there will be a “Meet the Artists” Reception at the Riverhead Edgar Allen Poe Festival on October 31, 2014. A brochure will be produced identifying artists and location of their work.

This project is being supported through the generosity of H2M Architects & Engineers.
