Rosalie Dimon Gallery: Peter Beston & Michael McLaughlin, Aug. 1

East End Arts is pleased to announce the exciting new art show at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery, at the Jamesport Manor Inn (located at 370 Manor Lane in Jamesport, NY) featuring East End Arts members: oil painter Peter Beston of East Quogue and photographer Michael McLaughlin of Riverhead. The show opens on Friday, August 1, 2014 and will be up for viewing until October 29, 2014. An Artists’ Reception will be held on Sunday, August 17 from 3 PM to 5 PM at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery, where the public will have the opportunity to meet the artists. Local wines and artisanal cheeses will be served. The public is invited to this free event.

Oil painter Peter Beston studied art at Croydon College of Art and Hampstead School of Art in London, and at West Dean College in Sussex, England. For many years he worked internationally as an award-winning film editor, cutting features, documentaries, and commercials. He now paints full-time, having settled on the East End, where he finds the light and landscape bring him new inspiration. One consequence of his career in film is that his work is instilled with a sense of narrative; he also aims to balance it on the knife-edge between the external environment and an interior one, where intensity of color and precise composition lead the observer towards new insights into the familiar. Peter’s work has been exhibited at the Quogue Library, at the East End Arts’ Jamesport Vineyard’s Artists Showcase, and on the cover of Dan’s Papers. Photographer Michael McLaughlin is a research analyst by trade who discovered the creative side of his brain after finding the East End of Long Island. A desire to capture and share the beauty of the Long Island Sound and the adjacent farmland through photography eventually led to active participation in the East End arts community and to numerous exhibits and awards. His quantitative training in combination with a passion for modern and classical architecture has informed his approach to both composition and post-processing technique.
