High bacterial levels close Great Pond in Peconic

A portion of Peconic Dunes County Park was closed Thursday due to excessive bacteria levels, officials said.

James L. Tomarken, MD, MSW, MPH, MBA, Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, said  the lake swim area only of Peconic Dunes County Park, on Great Pond in Peconic, was closed to bathing due to the finding of bacterial levels in excess of acceptable criteria.
