New carnival in the works for Greenport over Labor Day weekend

A brand-new carnival is in the planning stages for Greenport on Labor Day weekend.

Greenport Village Clerk Sylvia Lazzari Pirillo told the village board, at Monday’s work session, that the East End Seaport Museum had put in a request for a public assembly permit for a first-ever carnival that would feature rides, food, games and fireworks, from Aug. 28 through Aug. 31.

The carnival, she said, would set up on Moores Lane, and would not pose a conflict with any other festivals or similar events planned for the holiday weekend.

The board is expected to vote on a resolution approving the permit at the village board meeting on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Third Street Firehouse.
