Dr. Donald Pevney, of Riverhead, passed away at his home on Sunday after a long illness. He was 80.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he was a graduate of Columbia College and New York Univerity School of Medicine. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-63 before settling in Riverhead where he was the town pediatrician for many years before retiring from clinical practice in the late 1990s.
He was a member of the Suffolk Pediatric Society, of which he was a past president. In later years he served as a consultant for the Medical Liability Insurance Company of New York and was a frequent lecturer on standards of care in pediatrics. He found great joy and pride in his family, his work and his many intellectual pursuits.He will be remembered as a uniquely capable physician and a generous and caring person who was always willing to provide help and advice to friends and family.
Dr. Pevney is survived by his wife, Jacqeline Wargo Pevney of Riverhead; his brother, Dr. Bruce Pevney of Carlsbad, Calif.; his son David B. Pevney and wife Esther of Charlotte, No. Carolina; his daughter Andrea J. Pevney of Riverhead and his daughter Donna Masterson, her husband john and grandchildren Molly, John Jr, and Julia Masterson of Medfield, Mass.
