Police ID woman found dead in car at Southold beach

Police have released the name of the woman found dead in her car at Southold Town beach on Thursday.

According to Southold Town police, the woman was identified as Wendy S. Siera, 60, of Washington Heights in New York City; police said they were able to locate family members in Roseville, Minnesota.

Police said Siera was found dead in her vehicle at 2:09 a.m. by a police officer during regular patrol. She appears to have taken her own life by mixing household chemicals in a container and producing a poisonous gas, police said.

Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Services Unit dispatched a hazardous materials team to assist in making the scene safe, police said. Southold Fire Department personnel were called to assist in the decontamination of the scene, police said.

Siera’s was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiners Office for final determination of cause of death, police said.
